Cameroon champions Coton Sport completes double over Matlama FC to reach CAF Champions League second round

Two-time defending Cameroon Elite One champions Coton Sport of Garoua defeated Matlama FC of Lesotho 4-0 on aggregate to secure their place in the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League.
Despite being fully in control before Sunday’s clash after their huge 3-0 first leg win at Freestate Stadium in Bloemfontein, the Cotonites as they are referred to, completed a double over their rivals with a slim 1-0 win to qualify before their home crowd at the Roumde Adjia Stadium.
Matlama FC looked eager to reduce the damage in the first half and had the better of the chances. Unfortunately, the visitors were very unlucky as they couldn’t convert their chances. They worked on their defensive frailties and improved offensively but goals were not forthcoming.
The contest was settled early in the second half when Brandon Eno scored the lone goal of the game at the 48 minute to make it 4-0 on aggregate. It is his second goal in the qualifiers after he netted one of three goals in the first leg last week.
Coton Sport will now face Royal Leopard of Eswatini-who beat CFFA of Madagascar 5-3 in the second round next month. The two-legged encounter will be played between the 7-9 and 14-16 of October.
The 16 winners of the second round will advance to the group stage while the other 16 losers will enter the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs round.
