Coton Sport’s revival under interim head coach Haman Gabriel continued as the MTN Elite One title holders defeated Bamboutos of Mbouda 2-0 in a delayed Match day eight game to record their third successive win of the season.
The game had seemed destined to end in a frustrating goalless stalemate but the defending champions had the final say as Bamboutos succumbed to their stellar quality in the final minutes of the game.
Mamoudou Hassana found the breakthrough seven minutes to stoppage time before Marou Souiabou-author of a brace in their previous game- sealed the win with almost the last kick of the game at the 90+5 minute.
Wednesday’s victory implies Coton Sport moves to the top half of the table. They are now 6th on the logs with 11 points.
Canon Returns to form in impressive fashion
Hughes Eyango Priso scored a first half brace as 10-man Canon of Yaoundé beat Fauve Azur 3-2 to end a run of two games without winning.
The thrilling tie at the Bepanda Reunification Stadium was a game the Mekok Mengonda had to win to keep up the pressure on pool A leaders Astre of Douala, excluded from Wednesday’s games. They didn’t disappoint and are currently only a point away from regaining their top spot.
Canon Sportive were quickly in front only after 16 minutes when Eyango Priso scored the opening goal. The youngster’s lead was cancelled barely four minutes later by Junior Kaaba.
But Eyango-now on five goals this season- was quickly back on the score sheet on 25 minutes with a brace but victory wasn’t guaranteed after their goalkeeper James Djoayang was sent off.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Canon continued to dominate. Henry Paul Tchikeu converted a penalty to double their advantage as they held on to win despite Francois Boyomo’s late goal for Fauve Azur.
YOSA, Eding impress, PWD slumps again.
2020 Cameroon Elite One champions PWD of Bamenda recorded their second consecutive draw against Renaissance at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
The Abakwa are now winless in their previous three games with their last win against YAFOOT on April 6. They have also dropped to third with 13 points from 9 games.
Elsewhere, Eding Sport narrowly edged Fovu Club 1-0 to return to winning ways.
The 2017 Elite One champions also continued their unbeaten run and consolidated their lead in pool B. They are now 10 points clear the top of pool B.
In other results, Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda bounced back from a three match win less run to beat Panthere of Nde 2-0 at the Yaoundé Ngoa Ekelle Stadium.
Yuh Moses scored a delightful free-kick to open his goal account while Emmanuel Tengemo scored his fourth goal of the season as YOSA moved within two points from the top of pool B.
