Cameroon MTN Elite One: Weekend Wrap

The first phase of matches in pool A of the Cameroon MTN Elite One Championship wrapped up last weekend with some delay games in pool B also in action.
While teams like Astre of Douala equaled Eding Sport’s nine match unbeaten run this season following their comprehensive win over TKC, the struggle for relegation battling Racing FC and Panthere Sportive continued.
A total of 19 goals were scored with 7 wins from eight games and just one draw. Here’s a review of the weekend matches.
Les Astres 2-0 TKC
Les Astres of Douala defeated bottom placed Tonnerre Kalara Club of Yaoundé 2-0 to go 6points clear at the top of pool B of the MTN Elite One Championship.
Two early first half goals from Steve Michael Meng and A. Pekandjoum sealed the win for the leaders who continued their impressive run and are now unbeaten in nine games.
Struggling TKC tail the group on 3pts from 10 games
Racing FC 1-3 Stade Renard
Guy Claude Eyike scored a brace as Stade Renard of Melong produced a sublime first half display to beat Racing of Bafoussam 3-1 and returned to winning ways.
Brice Sindjo, who captained his side during the game scored the other goal to end his three-match goal drought in the championship. It was also his sixth goal of the season as Stade Renard moved up to 8th with 15points.
Kamdem Leroy scored the consolation goal for Racing while substitute Kengne Guy Armel missed a stoppage time penalty when he skied his shot above the crossbar. Racing FC-who last won a game on April 2- sit in the red zone, only 3 points better than TKC.

Djiko FC 1-1 Canon Sportif
Bahazah Go-Ah scored a stunning free-kick to rescue a point for Canon Sportif of Yaounde against Djiko FC at the Yaounde Ngoa Ekelle Stadium.
Arthur Eric Cantona put Djiko ahead with his sixth goal of the season but they failed to hold on to their lead as their run of three consecutive wins ended.
The draw implies Canon Sportif who slipped yet again after defeat to Les Astres drop to third with 19 points while Djiko leaped to 6th, 5 points behind them.
Fauve Azur 2-1 Union
Fauve Azur held on to beat Union Sportive of Douala to end their two match winless run in the MTN Elite One Championship.
Emmanuel Kaaba scored a brace within six minutes to inspire his side to a win at the Bepanda Omnisport stadium which leaves them a just spot behind their opponents.
Fernand Eloudou converted from the spot for Union before the break but they couldn’t fight back for a possible draw despite their improved second half display. Union Sportive remains in the top half of the table with 17 points.
APEJES 2-0 Panthere
APEJES of Mfou defeated Panthere Sportive of Nde 2-0 at the Bepanda Omnisport Stadium to move up to second in pool A of the league for the first time this season.
The 2016 Cup of Cameroon winners were quickly in front inside the opening 10 minutes through Nathaniel Cinfeh while Joseph Apam’s deflected shot sealed the win at the 75th minute of the game.
APEJES is currently six points behind leaders Les Astres of Douala. Panthere Sportive’s poor form continued. They are now 11th place with Racing and TKC completing the bottom three.

AS Fortuna 0-3 Colombe
Colombe Sportive thrashed AS Fortuna 3-0 at the Annex of the Japoma Stadium to return to winning ways in the top tier championship.
The win helped them move to 7th place with 16 points. AS Fortuna on their part dropped to 10th and is only a point from the relation zone. They are now winless in their last three games.
YAFOOT 0-2 Coton Sport
Defending Cameroon Elite One Champions Coton Sport of Garoua strolled to victory with a 2-0 win against YAFOOT to move up to third in pool B of the Cameroon Elite One Championship.
Eno Brandon smashed home the opener from Felix Oukine’s assist. Marou Souaibou then took up goal scoring duties when he hit their second goal to help his side to another routine win under interim caretaker Hamann Gabriel.
Coton Sport are now eight point away from leaders Eding Sport. They are also a point and a place behind Avion Academy. YAFOOT on their part remain 11th in their pool.

New Stars 0-1 Eding Sport
2017 Cameroon Elite One champions Eding Sport put behind their first defeat of the season against nearest challengers Avion Academy to claim a slim 1-0 victory against lowest ranked YAFOOT.
This year’s title aspirants are now eight points clear at the top of the table. They have collected 26 points from 11 games.
New Stars are 10th on the logs with 9 points.
