Cameroon: Playoffs for Ascension to Elite Two Underway
Playoffs to determine the three clubs to be promoted to the national league two of Cameroon, domestically called Elite Two, have started.
The competition traditionally groups ten clubs that have championed amateur championships in the ten different regions of the country. The teams have been drawn into three pools with matches scheduled on two different venues, Limbe and Bafoussam.
On Sunday 19 September 2021, at the Municipal stadium of Bandjoun, Pools B and C witnessed an encounter each. In Pool B, Gazelle FA de Garoua defeated CPS de Bertoua by two goals to zero. Rangers FC of Bafut were off to a flying start in Pool C with a two-zero victory over Riziere FC de Tonga.
Les Amis FC stun EFBC as Lausanne FC top group A
Lausanne FC de Yaoundé and group A rivals Les Amis FC de Ngaoundere became the first clubs to win their opening games on Saturday 18 September at the annex of the Limbe Omnisport stadium.
In the first game, Yao Mathieu scored a 90th minute winner as Les Amis FC of Ngaoundere came from behind to beat Ecole de Football Brasseries de Douala two goals to one.
Aba Maigari cancelled out Ekanga’s 32nd minute opener before his teammate Yao Mathieu completed the thrilling comeback.
In the second game of the group, Makon Arthur and Ateba Frank were on target as Lausanne FC de Yaoundé convincingly beat Kohi FC of Maroua two nil.
The win implies the centre region club top pool A with three points. They are followed by Les Amis FC who also collected their first three points.
Ecole de Football Brasseries de Douala are third without a point and Kohi FC de Maroua sit bottom of the group with zero points.
Both EFBC and Kohi FC hope to make amends when they face each other on Tuesday September 21 at the Centenary Stadium at 1:30pm local time. At 3:30pm, Lausanne FC and Les Ami FC will clash to determine who takes the lead in group A.
