Mali stuns Mauritania, Gambia leaves it late to edge Tunisia
Ablie Jallow scored in stoppage time as debutants Gambia dramatically edged Tunisia in Limbe to equal group F rivals Mali with seven points.
The Scorpions – surprise package of the 24-team competition – will face Guinea in the Round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Mali stunned Mauritania two-nil on Thursday 20 January in Douala, courtesy of goals from Massadio Haidara and Ibrahima Koné in each half of the game.
Despite recording a second defeat, Tunisia qualifies as third-best of the group thanks to the win over Mauritania, and will encounter Nigeria in the knockouts.
Bottom side Mauritania was unfortunate in their chase for honour, having also suffered defeats to Gambia and the 2004 winners in first two group matches.
They leave pointless and goalless, the worst performance so far.
