Rangers FC Puncture League Two Dreams of An Entire Region

Rangers FC of Bafut have been promoted to the Cameroon second tier championship at the detriment of anglo-saxon rivals Best Stars – who needed it most. This follows their goalless tie at the Bamendzi stadium of the West region on Saturday 25 September 2021.

It was the most crucial fixture of pool C of the 2021 national interpool or playoffs to determine the three [out of ten] clubs worthy of promotion from the ten regions of the country.

The north westerners thus finish top of the tricky group with four points and undefeated. They now join Lausanne of the Centre region and Gazelle FA of the Far North region for next season’s Elite Two campaign.

The kick-off to Saturday’s decisive clash was delayed after Rangers FC were alleged to have fielded ineligible players. On the pitch, the game was truncating and far too short of fluidity, attractiveness and flare.

Bafut Rangers’ success means the North West region automatically got a replacement for Foncha Street who could not survive relegation from the second tier competition.

The plight of a desperate region continues

Saturday’s draw punctured Best Stars’ hopes of taking the South West region of Cameroon back to the national stage for the first time since 2016.

Their plans started suffering cracks the moment they drew one-one with Riziere of Tonga in their first outing. They had taken the lead before sloppily conceding the goal that overturned their keg of optimism.

It’s a big loss for the boys of Djoufack Saturnin. The hopes of the people were too heavy for the lads. Another year of painful and wishful wait now unfolds before their very own eyes.
